Starting this month, Microsoft plans to buy a GitHub website for $ 7.5 billion. It's hard to imagine how important GitHub is to the development of modern software. The service has about 28 million users and 85 million codecs, including Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google, Walmart and the US government. Many are the open source code, which is a relatively high risk for Microsoft's roots.
Several GitHub producers immediately voted with their feet and moved the projects to competitive services, such as GitLab, which immediately exceeded the project outflows by up to 10 times. But in general, developers are willing to give Microsoft a suspicious benefit.
"Microsoft has achieved real successes in an open public community," says Dr. Kurt Sussman, at the Open Source Bridge conference in Portland, Oregon. Sussman says Microsoft has not forgotten last year's competitive behavior, but he is careful about optimizing the company's future. She says she is trying alternatives and recommends GitHub to its customers. "It's reliable, stable and supported," she says.
